LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE

DEATH AT A FUNERAL (2007)
– 4 out of 5 stars

rewarded myself after such a long week – with a movie! The movie in question is Death at a Funeral, starring mainly Brits but I guess the most recognizable name is Matthew McFayden, who starred in Pride and Prejudice starring Keira Knightley. The movie is peppered with ‘shit’ and ‘f-words’ but it’s truly funny and somehow realistic.

Anyway, this is supposed to be a black comedy about this patriarch’s funeral. You might be thinking with such a grim title, how can it be a comedy? Haha, you are very wrong. The movie was funny right from the beginning, with the casket service delivering the wrong coffin. Comedy and lots of laughter ensues with the arriving, arrival and interaction of family and friends at the funeral service. Personally, I think the star of the movie is Simon, the boyfriend who took some hallucinogen instead of the supposed Valium as the bottle was labelled. He starts behaving very strangely; liking greenery, wire chickens, shaking coffins, big hands and a penchant for nakedness. Then a guy blackmails the sons with a secret and the reactions of the guys are worth a good laugh at. Another guy, Howard, who’s been given the ‘privilege’ of looking after Uncle Alfie gets more than he bargained for when he brings him to the toilet! OMG, I can’t stop laughing at the scenes of the movie.

GO WATCH IT!
