Meryl Streep stars as Margaret Thatcher, the longest serving Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of the 20th century. It is a biographical film that depicts her younger days as she listened to her father’s political speeches, her first start with politics and her eventual rise to power.
Margaret Thatcher: It used to be about trying to do something. Now it’s about trying to be someone.
Well, the only thing I could remember Margaret Thatcher from my history books was that she tried to removed the welfare state because people were becoming lazy to provide for themselves, or rather, dependent on the government. “Lazy” is a word I would use. Anyway, now I’ve learnt another fact about her – her blue suits! As a lover of the colour blue, I felt giddy with joy when her wardrobe showed suits with different suits of blue.
But it was a compelling story, I especially liked how she was the only female in the room and she had to raise her voice to get her point taken and how she always left the men speechless. She is proud of her background as a grocer’s daughter, afterall it’s where she was educated in politics, and always fires back at those who criticize her.
Must watch for those who love Meryl Streep, who also won an Oscar, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe for her performance.
