When the Enterprise faces a force of terror from within their organization, Captain Kirk leads his crew to Kronos to capture the man responsible – John Harrison.

That’s just a really brief summary but I just want to shout out: BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH! I didn’t catch the prequel to this so the main reason I’m watching this sequel is BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH. His role here is kept under wraps but we do know he antagonizes Kirk and his crew so this villainous  role must be juicy! He even does some hand-to-hand combat here which really enhances the biceps of BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH. Throughout the movie, you will question his motives and actions but it is all worth it.

The script is well-written and the action scenes pack a punch. Even the bromance scenes between Kirk and Spock are everywhere. Maybe I read too much in between the lines. Spock’s Vulcan sensibilities are at its height because everyone including Kirk and Uhura have had enough of his “honesty”.

It’s been, what, 10 years since the last movie and wow, these black suits still look so slick. It’s been so long there has been countless repeats of MIB and MIB2 on TV. I can still remember that disgusting cockroach alien and Lara Flynn Boyle as the skinniest alien in human form. And of course, Will Smith telling you to  “nod your head” cos the black suits are coming.

Agent Jay: O is feminine, K is masculine. I see a couple, I’m like “OK”!

This time, Agent Jay (Smith) has to go back in time to save his partner, Kay (Tommy Lee Jones) after his nemesis went back to kill Kay. It’s really refreshing to see Josh Brolin in such a role because he’s always acting in those serious movies and it was cool to watch him joke without any facial expression, like old Kay.

Say hello to retro aliens! The most interesting alien has to be Griffin simply because he can calculate thousands of possibilities base on a single action that you did or did not do. Tough life. I thought the ending was really sweet nice and even though I saw it coming. It’s so nice to see people bond over pie! Pie reminds me of Dean Winchester!

THE RAVEN (2012)

Set in 19th century Baltimore, the movie tells a fictionalized account of the last days of Edgar Allan Poe and his encounter with a serial killer whose methods mirrors those in his stories of mystery and macabre.

I entered the cinema wondering why the movie was slapped with a M18 rating. I discovered the reason why a few minutes later. Turns out the partly-severed neck wasn’t the worst thing. Wow, you know sometimes you enter a cinema not expecting it to be quite as thrillingly scary, well, this was it. The sleuthing with John Cusack and Luke Evans was good but the gore – not really.

Caught Sex and the City 2 and I must say it would appeal more to the ladies.

It’s almost two years since Carrie and Big tied the knot and Carrie is trying to keep the sparkle on her marriage. Samantha is still Samantha, and is busy trying to reverse time by popping over 40 pills a day and rubbing “magic lotions” to where it matters so that she has the body and stamina of a 35-year-old. Charlotte has a nanny that wouldn’t wear a bra and is afraid that her husband might go by the Law, the “Jude Law” (nice one!). Miranda, on the other hand, is suffering discrimination from her alpha-male boss and her job security is on the line. What better way to escape all the stress of the city than escape to Abu Dhabi (or Morocco, where it was actually filmed)? With Samantha’s PR connections, they enjoy an all-expenses-paid trip and at the same time, being treated like royalty.

Overall, the movie was all shoes and dresses – a visual treat – but it was slightly long at over 2 hours. The 80s flashback is hilarious! Miranda’s hair. Carrie’s Madonna-inspired outfit. However, parts where Samantha appeared were all hilarious because she kept making menopausal and dirty jokes. You literally LOL at the part where he meets her “Lawrence” while at Abu Dhabi on their date. OMFG! 3 and a half out of 5 stars.
