THE LEGO MOVIE (2014)
4 out of 5 stars
WATCH IT BECAUSE…
1) EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!
2) There are hilarious punchlines coming out the mouths of these Lego figurines!
3) Who knew Liam Neeson can be both good cop and bad cop?
4) The one-sided friendship between Superman and Green Lantern.
Vitruvius: All of this is true because it rhymes.
PACIFIC RIM (2013)
5 out of 5 stars
THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE BEST MOVIE I’VE SEEN THIS YEAR.
Set in the 2020s, Earth is at war with the Kaijus (Japanese for ‘giant monsters’) that have emerged from a portal in the floor of the Pacific Ocean. The humans have created Jaegers (German for ‘hunters’), giant robots controlled by two pilots whose minds are connected via a neural bridge. As the kaijus evolve and become larger and more powerful, more Jaegers are destroyed faster than they can be replaced. In their last bid to fight off the Kaijus before they take over Earth, a group of Jaeger pilots from different backgrounds gather for the final fight.
Raleigh Becket: There are things you can’t fight – acts of God. You see a hurricane coming, you get out of the way. But when you’re in a Jaeger, you can finally fight the hurricane. You can win.
The Jaegers are really magnificent! Every fight scene is interesting to watch because different Jaegers are operated by different people and each person reacts differently to attacks. But I was really absorbed when Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam) and Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi) were engaged in stick fighting to test their compatibility. #mindblown
Mako Mori is super badass! No doubt raised by another badass, Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba). Warning: DO NOT TOUCH HIM!
Charlie Day provides most of the comic relief alongside Ron Perlman. My only grumble is that the version I watched dubbed over Hunnam’s and Elba’s Japanese speaking parts. What’s a girl got to do to hear hot people speak Japanese?
It’s my first time watching Charlie Hunnam on the big screen. He’s soooo fine! He’s soooo clean-shaven! He’s English! I’m totally Mako when she glances through the peephole. For those who don’t know, Charlie Hunnam is known for playing Jax Teller on Sons of Anarchy. He’s also usually bearded. But he’s still sooooo hot!
HORRIBLE BOSSES (2011)
– 3 and a half out of 5 stars
Nick (Jason Bateman), Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) and Dale (Charlie Day) are three friends who believe they have the worst bosses anyone could possibly have. They hatch a plan to kill their bosses and things start to go wrong after they take the advice from someone in the “most dangerous bar”.
Bobby Pellitt: You can fire Professor Xavier.
Kurt: You mean Hank.
Bobby Pellitt: Creeps me out, rolling around all day in his special, little secret chair.
There’s simply too many hilarious moments in this movie to count. The part where Jamix Foxx describes how he got his name, Motherfucker Jones? The part where Jason Sudeikis places the entire bathroom up his ass? The part where Charlie Day gets high on coke, sings “That’s Not My Name” and his tiny jabs?
Also, Colin Farrell and Jennifer Aniston played characters that were way off! Farrell looks weird (hello, combover!) and his comments about a colleague in a wheelchair was outrageous! Aniston was just talking dirty all the time and it’s a bit disconcerting to hear but it’s even more shocking to watch her when she tries to seduce Dale. And it’s so cute because Charlie Day’s voice gets really squeaky when he’s nervous!
Some other familiar faces were John Francis Daley (Sweets from Bones), Ioan Gruffudd and Julie Bowen (Modern Family). Gruffud’s cameo was the funniest! WET WORK!
STAY FOR SOME OUTTAKES DURING THE CREDITS!
