EMBRACE THE YEAR AHEAD

NEW YEAR’S EVE (2011)
– 3 and a half out of 5 stars

Another star-studded romantic comedy! In New York!

Funniest character would be Sofia Vergara! Her lines are the funniest! Lea Michele’s so pretty here! It’s so nice to hear her sing… and once again, her solo makes me want to cry. And the scene where I caught a fake belly – when Jessica Biel accidentally pinched her sponge pregnant belly. I wasn’t the only one who saw it because I heard gasps then laughters in the audience after that scene.

But I can’t really pick a favourite because none left any deep impact on me. The Josh Duhamel story was good at the start but the ending was weird, to me. The Abigail Breslin (she looks so grown-up now!) one started okay but the ending was off too. Though her classmate’s mother, who likes to lurk and spy on her daughter is creepily weird.

YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE

P.S. I LOVE YOU (2007)
3 and a half out of 5 stars

When I first heard of the movie, I wanted to watch the movie cos I liked the book. But as the release date got nearer, I was getting apprehensive as I read many reviews that the show was blah and the leads were miscasted as they didn’t have any chemistry. But I went for it and I didn’t regret it at all. I won’t say they have no chemistry but I’ve seen better movie couples.

Anyway, Gerry (Gerard Butler) dies of a brain tumour, leaving his wife Holly (Hilary Swank) alone with pretty much nothing except grief. However, he carefully plans her life after his death by sending her letters to help her get back on track. Of course, everytime she opens her letter, the floodgates open. And it’s nice to see how they met at first – so sweet! And I really liked GV’s souvenir – tissues. How appropriate.
