Set in the 2020s, Earth is at war with the Kaijus (Japanese for ‘giant monsters’) that have emerged from a portal in the floor of the Pacific Ocean. The humans have created Jaegers (German for ‘hunters’), giant robots controlled by two pilots whose minds are connected via a neural bridge. As the kaijus evolve and become larger and more powerful, more Jaegers are destroyed faster than they can be replaced. In their last bid to fight off the Kaijus before they take over Earth, a group of Jaeger pilots from different backgrounds gather for the final fight.

Raleigh Becket: There are things you can’t fight – acts of God. You see a hurricane coming, you get out of the way. But when you’re in a Jaeger, you can finally fight the hurricane. You can win.

The Jaegers are really magnificent! Every fight scene is interesting to watch because different Jaegers are operated by different people and each person reacts differently to attacks. But I was really absorbed when Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam) and Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi) were engaged in stick fighting to test their compatibility. #mindblown

Mako Mori is super badass! No doubt raised by another badass, Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba). Warning: DO NOT TOUCH HIM!

Charlie Day provides most of the comic relief alongside Ron Perlman. My only grumble is that the version I watched dubbed over Hunnam’s and Elba’s Japanese speaking parts. What’s a girl got to do to hear hot people speak Japanese?

It’s my first time watching Charlie Hunnam on the big screen. He’s soooo fine! He’s soooo clean-shaven! He’s English! I’m totally Mako when she glances through the peephole. For those who don’t know, Charlie Hunnam is known for playing Jax Teller on Sons of Anarchy. He’s also usually bearded. But he’s still sooooo hot!

THOR (2011)
– 4 out of 5 stars

Thor (Chris Hemsworth), son of Odin, is the successor to the throne in Asgard. However, his rash and arrogant ways destroys the truce between Odin and Laufey, leader of the Frost Giants in Jotunheim. Odin strips Thor of his power and banishes him to Earth, so that he may learn humility and prove himself worthy of the throne.

He put on 10kg of muscle to play Thor and I think it paid off really well. He looks good arrogant and was also funny when he brought his “ancient” ways into the modern world (ie. smashing his cup for another cup of coffee!). Norse mythology has always been interesting, so having hot people playing gods are a plus.

I liked Sif, the Goddesss of War, too. She’s the only female warrior fighting alongside Thor and she knows her weapons. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is just really creepy and I can see right through him, man. He appears to defend his brother but he’s actually stabbing him in the back!

There’s an uncredited cameo by Jeremy Renner (HOT!) as Hawkeye and Stan Lee as always in movie adaptations of Marvel Comics characters. This movie, and the upcoming Captain America (Chris Evans) is building up to the hype of 2012′s The Avengers! Stay till the end of the credits for a sneak peek of what’s to come in The Avengers!

TAKERS (2010)
– 3 out of 5 stars

Takers follows a group of professional robbers whose lives are interrupted by the release of one of their former ally, Ghost, who got caught after he was shot. Ghost’s appearance brings another job to them – the heist of $30 million from an armoured car. Even though some members are wary of Ghost, they take the job anyway not knowing that the detectives are closing on to them from their previous heist.

The movie boasts quite a cast – Paul Walker, Idris Elba, Hayden Christensen, Chris Brown, Tip ‘T.I’ Harris and Matt Dillion. I think for this kind of “heist movies”, you mostly watch to see how the heist goes and what they do to avoid capture. In this case, it was arrogance and carelessness that led to their exposed identities. The final heist was interesting because one chase led to the other and there were so many guns!

– 3 and a half out of 5 stars

Caught The Losers the other day and man, thank goodness for some ACTION!

Five members of an elite squad were sent on a search-and-destroy mission in Bolivia, but decided to abort the mission when they find children on site. However, they were betrayed by a powerful enemy, Max, who refused to abort the mission and even blew up the chopper that were supposed to bring the team back. They were presumed dead but they are very much alive because they let the children board the chopper instead. While in hiding, they are approached by the mysterious Aisha (Zoe Saldana), who smuggles them back into the USA and join forces to destroy their common enemy, Max.

Chris Evans as Jensen is really funny! Liked the part when he went to steal the algorithm and the ‘invisible gun’ thing he had. But my favourite character is Cougar! He speaks little but is such a sharp shooter! He helped Jensen with his ‘invisible gun’ because he (like what the poster describes) specializes in long-range eliminations. Plus, Zoe Saldana really kicks ass?! Her legs can twist, hook and kick really well! Way to show them guys how to kick ass.
