Finally, the Cornetto trilogy comes to an end!

Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead made cop movies and zombie movies hilarious and now, The World’s End does the same to science fiction movies.

Gary King (Pegg), an alcoholic, resolves to track down his friends from high school to complete their epic pub crawl of 12 pubs back in their hometown of Newton Haven. Halfway through their pub crawl, they realize something is off about their town and set their way to make things right and leave the town in one piece and at the same time, drink a pint at each pub to complete their journey.

To me, the bromance of Pegg and Frost have always been the core of these films and it is proven here again. It is also fresh to see Martin Freeman not being so serious and W.T.F.-ing all the time. The way these guys smash aliens and fight them makes it very entertaining. Aliens have never been destroyed that comically before, right? I say, British humour is in a class of its own.

Sad to say, this one scared the shit out of me too. I don’t like aliens with luminous, multiple rows of teeth! They really love to tear up things with those teeth.

The British slang and humour really helped to make this movie more interesting. The way they swear is very charming! Since the kids are the ones protecting the block, I was really amazed at what “weapons” they kept hidden in their houses! They are concerned with things like prepaid texts as one line explains it all:

I’ve only got one text left. It’s too much madness to explain in one text!

One thing you’ve got to admire is how these group of guys stand up for each other! I’ve got a weakness for this kinda brotherhood thing.

PAUL (2011)
– 4 out of 5 stars

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are Graeme Willy and Clive Gollings, two Brits visiting the 2009 San Diego Comic Con who decide to take a roadtrip through the sites of major extraterrestrial importance. However, they meet Paul, an alien, who wants to return home and their lives will never be the same again.

OMG this movie is super funny – I kept laughing throughout its entirety! Most of it had something to do with their inner (and outer) geek and of course Paul, who is as unconventional as an alien could be. He smokes weed, moons people, swears like a sailor – and he doesn’t like to probe you. Seth Rogen with his stoner voice and goofy laughter is perfect for Paul. The agents after them were really funny too! Especially Jason Bateman’s Lorenzo Zoil, who actually tasted the liquid (it’s pee!) on the ground. Eeew! While Agent Haggard (Bill Hader) likes to snap pictures of useless items, Agent O’Reilly (Joe Lo Truglio) was trying to find out what spaceman balls look like… OMG that scene in the comic shop was one of the highlights! Caution though, cos there’s lots of swearing in this film but it was all done in good fun.

Graeme Willy: You are an alien!
Paul: To you I am, yes.
Graeme Willy: Are you gonna probe us?
Paul: Why does everyone always assume that? What am I doing? Am I harvesting farts? How much can I learn from an ass?

Last but not least, the universally-asked question: “Who the hell is Adam Shadowchild?”
